MIB Launches 'Gems of India' Creator Challenge with YouTube, Meta
MIB has launched the ‘Gems of India’ Challenge with YouTube and Meta to promote grassroots digital creators and local storytelling.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has initiated the pilot phase of its ‘Gems of India’ Challenge, a pan-India quest to find and promote grassroots digital creators. YouTube and Meta are ecosystem partners in the programme to help scale the reach of it to creators across the country.
As part of the collaboration, YouTube and Meta will mobilise and engage their creator communities to drive participation in the challenge and help showcase local stories from across India through digital content.
The initiative is an extension of Waves OTT’s citizen creator platform MyWAVES, which aims to inspire creators to capture the culture, heritage, tourism, traditions, history and unique achievements of their districts through short-form storytelling.

The ministry said the learnings from the pilot phase will help in shaping the pan-India rollout of the initiative across all states and Union Territories. Our long term goal is to build a strong ecosystem of digital creators who document local stories of India, its cultural heritage and regional diversity.
Pilot phase will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Goa and Ladakh. The programme will be implemented in partnership with Prasar Bharati, My Bharat and the respective state and district administrations, with support from local cultural and educational institutions for mobilisation of creators and content generation.
