A recent survey has revealed that only 6% of Indian consumers are currently willing to pay for drone delivery services, highlighting the early stage of its adoption and the challenges in gaining widespread acceptance.
Despite these figures, industry leaders remain optimistic about the potential of drone logistics. Ankit Kumar, CEO of Skye Air, commented on the findings:
"While the survey reflects the nascent stage of drone delivery, our experience has been encouraging. In Gurugram, for instance, we deliver thousands of orders daily via drones, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. This technology offers a win-win: customers get products almost instantly, e-commerce platforms benefit from faster turnaround times, and brands are thrilled with quicker shipments."
Urban centers like Gurugram are proving ideal for drone delivery trials, thanks to high population density and demand for rapid solutions. Drones are addressing urban challenges like traffic congestion and aligning with sustainability goalsby reducing carbon emissions.
However, scaling operations and reducing costs remain critical hurdles. Kumar expressed optimism, stating:
"As drone technology matures and we achieve economies of scale, delivery costs will decrease, paving the way for broader adoption and cost-effectiveness."
