This Diwali, Zomato, the popular food ordering and delivery platform, embraces the true spirit of the festival with its innovative campaign, ‘Mission Diwali’. The campaign draws inspiration from the iconic NASA photo capturing India on Diwali, exploring the real-life stories that illuminate the celebration.

Conceptualized and overseen by Zomato's in-house creative team and produced by Ryde, the campaign is founded on the insight that the essence of Diwali lies not just in the dazzling lights adorning homes, but also in the warmth of human connection. This celebration of togetherness highlights the simple joys that characterize the festival, underscoring that, in India, food serves as the invisible thread that unites people and ultimately brightens everyone’s lives.

The whimsical film begins with a humorous interaction between a NASA astronaut in space and his superior, as the astronaut searches for the Diwali lights illuminating Earth. Meanwhile, an elderly man and his grandchildren are shown making various attempts to brighten their home, each effort met with a frustrated ‘negative, sir’ from the astronaut’s command center. However, everything changes with the arrival of a Zomato delivery partner, who brings a box of mithai (sweets).

As the granddaughter presents the sweets to her grandfather, the shiny silver foil of the kaju katli captures the astronaut's attention, prompting an enthusiastic ‘Positive, sir!’ The heartwarming video beautifully encapsulates how small gestures, like sharing sweets, can brighten the festive spirit of Diwali. The film concludes with the grandfather playfully suggesting a caption for the radiant picture: ‘Mithai Zomato karo, desh ko roshan karo’ (Order sweets from Zomato, brighten the country), as the sparkling mithai unexpectedly generates this year's ‘Diwali NASA picture’.
