Delhi HC Orders Meta to Remove Zee’s Copyright-Infringing Facebook Content
Delhi HC directs Meta to remove Facebook content infringing Zee’s copyright but denies page blocking for now.

The Delhi High Court directed Meta Platforms Inc to remove Facebook content infringing copyright and broadcast reproduction rights of Zed Entertainment Enterprises Ltd but refused to block the accused Facebook pages at this stage.
The ad-interim order was passed by Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani in a suit filed by Zed against Meta and 18 other defendants. The broadcaster sought permanent and dynamic injunctions to prevent alleged copyright infringement and damages, disclosure of accounts and other reliefs.

Copyright Battle:
Operators of 14 Facebook pages were repeatedly uploading its television serials and web series without authorisation, Zed told the court. The broadcaster said the material was being circulated on a number of accounts, which kept it available on Meta’s platform.
Meta has in some cases restricted removals to certain regions, leaving the same content available elsewhere despite repeated takedown requests, Senior Advocate Abhinav Mukerji, appearing for Zed, said. He also alleged that the pages were earning advertising revenue from Zee’s content and that Meta was making money from the monetisation.
On hearing the submissions, the court held that Zed had made out a prima facie case and the balance of convenience was in favour of the broadcaster. It stated that the continued availability of the alleged infringing material could cause irreparable harm to Zed.

The court directed Meta and the persons managing the Facebook pages to take down the infringing content as identified by the URLs mentioned.
However, the court refused to accede to Zee’s plea to block the Facebook accounts at this stage and observed that it is not inclined to grant such relief for the time being.
The matter is listed before the Joint Registrar on 15 October 2026 for completion of pleadings.
