WhatsApp adds 'Secret Code' feature, enhancing user privacy measures
The latest WhatsApp feature empowers users to establish a distinct password, detached from their device's unlock code, enhancing privacy and security measures significantly
WhatsApp, known for prioritizing user privacy, introduced the Chat Lock feature earlier this year to safeguard private conversations. Recently, the platform announced the ‘Secret Code’ function, an additional security layer for locked chats. This innovative feature enables users to establish a unique password, distinct from their phone's unlock code, fortifying the privacy of sensitive conversations.
Mark Zuckerberg expressed the significance of this enhancement, stating, “Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password.”
Users have the flexibility to conceal the folder containing locked chats from the chat list, ensuring access is granted only upon entering the secret code in the search bar. Alternatively, users can opt to display the folder in the chat list if preferred. Additionally, locking a new chat is now simplified, allowing users to secure a chat by tapping and holding on it without navigating through chat settings.
WhatsApp expressed satisfaction with the positive reception of the ‘Chat Lock’ feature and anticipates that the addition of the ‘Secret Code’ will further amplify its functionality. The feature is currently accessible and will gradually roll out worldwide in the following months.
