Royal Enfield Revives Iconic Flying Flea as Electric Bike
Royal Enfield is electrifying the future with the revival of its legendary Flying Flea as an electric motorcycle.
Royal Enfield, a legendary motorcycle brand, is set to make a significant leap into the future of mobility by reviving its iconic Flying Flea as an electric motorcycle. This bold move signifies the brand's commitment to embracing sustainable technology while staying true to its heritage.
The original Flying Flea, a lightweight motorcycle, was used by British forces during World War II. Its compact design and air-droppable nature made it a valuable asset in military operations. Now, Royal Enfield is reimagining this iconic model for the 21st century, powered by electricity instead of gasoline.
The company has invested a substantial Rs 1,500 crore in its electric vehicle venture. Two models are planned under the Flying Flea banner: the C6, which will retain the classic motorcycle aesthetic, and the S6, a scrambler-style bike.
To support this ambitious project, Royal Enfield has established a dedicated EV facility in Cheyyar, capable of producing 150,000 units annually. Additionally, a separate manufacturing line has been set up at the Orgadam facility to assemble the initial batch of electric motorcycles.
The brand has also assembled a team of 200 engineers across India and the UK to develop the new Flying Flea. Furthermore, Royal Enfield has acquired a 10 percent stake in Stark Future, a Spanish company known for its high-performance electric motorcycles. This strategic partnership will enhance Royal Enfield's expertise in electric vehicle technology.
The first electric Flying Flea model is expected to launch in international markets in 2026. While Indian enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer, the anticipation for this electric marvel is already building up.
As Royal Enfield prepares to electrify the roads, it is paying homage to its rich history while embracing the future of sustainable mobility. The revival of the Flying Flea marks a significant milestone for the brand and the entire motorcycle industry.
