Hyundai Brings Tarun Garg Into Shah Rukh Khan Campaign

Hyundai features Shah Rukh Khan and CEO Tarun Garg in a new campaign highlighting its evolving brand journey.

Hyundai Brings Tarun Garg Into Shah Rukh Khan Campaign

Hyundai Motor India has launched a new campaign with brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan but this time he shares the limelight with an unlikely co-star – Tarun Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Hyundai Motor India.

The campaign riffs on the notion of a “change in leadership” with humour, briefly leading viewers to believe Khan’s nearly three-decade association with the brand is ending.

The film opens with Khan arriving in his Hyundai Creta before company officials take the car away, saying it no longer has approval. Confused he calls Garg who casually says Hyundai is undergoing a "change in leadership".  Khan is surprised and assumes that he is being replaced as the brand ambassador.

Moments later, a Hyundai executive arrives with the company’s new all-electric SUV and hands over the keys to Khan, revealing the twist: the “change” alluded to Hyundai’s changing product portfolio more than its relationship with the actor.

The film ends with Garg welcoming Khan back and the actor saying, “The last 30 years were great,” to which Garg replies, “The next 30 years will be epic.”

The campaign is a break from conventional automotive advertising, with Hyundai’s CEO at the center of the narrative, aside from merely advertising the company’s latest electric vehicle.

While celebrity endorsements have long been a staple of automotive marketing, senior executives have typically remained behind the camera. Hyundai’s latest campaign, however, positions Garg as a more active part of the storytelling, with his appearance used to add humour and underscore the brand’s long-term association with Khan.

This is part of a broader marketing trend where business leaders are playing more public roles for their brands. Regularly, companies such as boAT, Lenskart, Mamaearth and Zomato have featured their founders and senior executives in campaigns to build authenticity and increase consumer engagement.
