Google initiates mass layoffs, impacting its advertising sales team significantly
Google implements strategic restructuring, resulting in around 1,000 job cuts across departments, including hardware, digital, and central engineering, as part of the mass layoffs initiative
In a recent development, Google has announced a substantial round of layoffs affecting approximately 1,000 employees across various global departments, notably impacting hardware, digital, and central engineering teams. Reports suggest that the Ad Sales team has also witnessed significant workforce reductions.
According to internal memos reportedly issued under the name of Senior Vice President Philipp Schindler, the primary focus of these layoffs is on Google's Large Customer Sales unit, responsible for advertising to major businesses. The restructuring aims to integrate the Google Customer Solution team into the core ad sales team, focusing on catering to smaller businesses.
Eligible employees affected by the layoffs will receive severance packages and an opportunity to reapply for other available positions within the company. Those unable to secure new roles will be required to exit the company by April, based on reports.
Google has committed to supporting the affected employees with outplacement services during this transition. The restructuring underscores the company's strategic adjustments amid evolving business dynamics.
