YouTube Draws 1.7 Billion Viewers During FIFA World Cup
YouTube recorded over 1.7 billion viewers during the FIFA World Cup, making it the platform's most-watched World Cup ever.
YouTube had its most engaged audience for a FIFA World Cup ever, with more than 1.7 billion unique viewers worldwide during the tournament, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said.
The viewership spike brought lifetime views of FIFA World Cup content on the platform to more than 200 billion, a new milestone for YouTube’s sports content ecosystem.
In an update shared on X, Pichai said, “The numbers are in: 1.7B+ global viewers tuned in to YouTube to watch World Cup-related videos during the tournament. “It was our most watched World Cup ever on YouTube, driving lifetime views of related content to over 200B.

“Independent creators were a big driver of engagement during the tournament, said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
“The videos created by YouTube’s creator community received more than 2.5 billion views, with football fans consuming tactical analysis, match reactions, commentary, behind-the-scenes content and vlog-style coverage throughout the competition,” Mohan said.

The platform also rolled out new ways for fans to engage during the tournament, including its first-ever Creator Cup, which attracted more than 10 million live views.
The strong performance points to the increasing importance of YouTube as a destination for sports content beyond live broadcasts, with creator-led coverage playing a big role in driving audience engagement.
Spain won its second FIFA World Cup on the pitch beating Argentina 1-0 in the final in extra time. Spain ended a 14-year World Cup title drought with a 1-0 victory over Morocco in the last minute of extra time when Ferran Torres scored the winner in the 106th minute.
