WhatsApp to Introduce Meta AI-Powered Photo Editing and Reply Feature

WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new update that will enable Meta AI to reply to and edit photos sent by users. This feature, discovered by WABetainfo in the WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.14.20, is expected to be integrated into the stable build soon.

The update will introduce a new chat button allowing users to share their pictures directly with Meta AI. Users can then ask the chatbot to identify specific objects or provide context for the images. Additionally, Meta AI can be prompted to make changes to an image via text instructions.

Screenshots shared by WABetainfo indicate that WhatsApp will provide users with full control over their photos, allowing them to delete the images at any time.

An earlier report from WABetainfo suggested that WhatsApp is also working on a feature enabling users to receive AI-generated images of themselves by sharing photos with Meta AI. The AI will ask users to send a single set of photos, which it will analyze to create accurate representations. Users can delete these setup images anytime through Meta AI settings.

To generate AI images, users will type the prompt “Imagine me” in the Meta AI conversation. This feature can also be invoked in other conversations by typing "@Meta AI imagine me." Meta AI will not read other messages in the conversation, and the resulting image will be processed automatically.

The new feature will likely be optional, requiring users to opt-in before use.
