Landmark Switch: Kylian Mbappé Parts Ways with Nike to Join Swiss Brand On
Kylian Mbappé leaves Nike after nearly two decades to sign with On, as the Swiss sportswear brand makes a bold entry into football alongside Thierry Henry.
French football superstar Kylian Mbappé has officially ended his nearly 20-year association with Nike to join On, signalling the Swiss sportswear company’s high-profile entry into the football market.
The move reflects On’s strategy to assemble an exclusive group of world-class athletes, reimagine football gear around modern performance needs, and influence the broader culture surrounding the sport.
A New Chapter for Swiss Sportwear
Founded in 2010, On initially established its reputation in running and marathons through signature technologies like CloudTec® and LightSpray™. The brand's global profile surged in 2019 after tennis legend Roger Federer joined as an investor and co-owner. Since then, the company has expanded its footprint into tennis footwear, training apparel, and lifestyle gear.
By partnering with Mbappé, On aims to bridge elite athletic performance with lifestyle and fashion.
“Our ambition is to bring On’s approach to the pitch, the pavement, and the runway – connecting elite performance with the culture that surrounds the game. With Kylian we have the perfect partner to dream what football can become.”
Thierry Henry Appointed Director of Football
To guide its football operations, On has named French footballing legend Thierry Henry as its Director of Football. Henry will play a key role in shaping the brand's product development and strategic vision as it builds its football line-up.
A Strategic Blow for Nike
Mbappé’s departure ends a relationship with Nike that began in 2006, when the forward was just nine years old. His exit marks another high-profile loss for the American sportswear giant, which previously saw rising star Lamine Yamal sign with rival Adidas in 2024.
