Tata Group-backed BigBasket has appointed Amit Nanda as its new Chief Executive Officer, in a leadership change at one of India’s largest online grocery platforms, as competition heats up in the quick commerce and e-grocery space.

Amazon Executive Joins BigBasket:
Nanda joins BigBasket from Amazon India where he was Director, Selling Partner Services, leading one of the company’s largest businesses and managing the third-party marketplace ecosystem in India.
He has more than 20 years of experience in e-commerce, consumer goods and consumer banking, with expertise in scaling digital businesses, brand-building and marketplace operations.
Nanda spent 11 years at Amazon where he was instrumental in growing the company’s private label business and led marketplace operations, product development, technology and owned brands. He has also worked with Citibank and Hindustan Unilever before Amazon.
Focus on Quick Commerce Growth:
Nanda will lead BigBasket into its next phase of growth as CEO, with a major focus on strengthening its quick commerce business amid increasing competition from the likes of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now.
The company expects him to drive innovation across its lines of business and to continue to improve customer convenience and value propositions.
I am excited to join BigBasket and am looking forward to building on the phenomenal trust it has established with millions of consumers across India, Nanda said. “BigBasket’s customer first values, coupled with the trusted legacy of Tata Group, provide a strong foundation for the future.”
He also underscored the company’s private label portfolio and growth potential and said he was looking forward to working closely with the leadership team to capture emerging opportunities in the sector.
