Apple is exploring screen-free wearables and new Apple Watch designs as it seeks to revive growth and expand AI-powered health features.

Apple Explores Screen-Free Wearable as It Rethinks Apple Watch Strategy

Apple is exploring the possibility of launching a screen-free wearable device as part of a broader rethink of its wearables portfolio, according to reports. The move comes as screenless fitness trackers and smart rings gain traction among consumers seeking less distracting devices focused on health and wellness.

The Cupertino-based company is said to be looking at a number of new directions for its wearable business, including display-free devices, alternative screen technologies and new form factors. Or a fitness tracker like the Whoop band that tracks health but has no screen.

Apple Watch Redesign Under Consideration:

Apple’s industrial design team is also working on a broader redesign of the Apple Watch lineup as competition from health-focused devices like Oura Ring and Whoop heats up.

The company has been said to have explored a variety of watch designs, from round displays to premium and lower-cost product ideas. But Apple has not made final decisions on these ideas and many concepts are still in the exploratory stage.

So, consumers are unlikely to see any major design overhaul any time soon.

AI Takes Centre Stage:

Apple is also trying to make its wearable ecosystem more focused on artificial intelligence and health tracking, as well as hardware changes.

The report says the company sees an opportunity to leverage advances in AI and deeper health and wellness monitoring to provide more personalised insights. The company is also said to be redesigning its Health app as Apple responds to increasing consumer interest in AI-powered wellness tools.

The larger picture could mean future Apple wearables providing more personalised health information, while also removing the need for users to be constantly interacting with a screen.

Apple Watch Series 12 and a new Ultra model with performance improvements, new colour options and additional health features are expected to be introduced before any major redesign. There has also been talk of a possible return of a ceramic case option.

The company’s broader rethink comes as its Wearables, Home and Accessories business has not grown as fast as some of its other product categories. New form factors, screen-free devices and AI-driven health features could give Apple new ways to inject excitement into its wearable ecosystem and reignite growth for the Apple Watch.
