Sony Pictures Networks India has promoted Rupen Thakkar as vice president and head counsel across television, sports, StudioNext and corporate legal functions.

Sony Pictures Networks India has elevated Rupen Thakkar to Vice President and Head Counsel for networks (television and Sony Sports Network), StudioNext and corporate functions.
Thakkar announced the development in a LinkedIn post, saying he was excited to start a new chapter while still working with the company’s teams across business verticals.
“I am thrilled to step into my new role as Vice President and Head Counsel- Networks (Television and Sony Sports Network), StudioNext and Corporate at Sony Pictures Networks India,” Thakkar wrote.

Media Legal Expansion:
The company said Thakkar has been with Sony Pictures Networks India for over three years and has held several legal leadership roles across network channels production, StudioNext, sports television and corporate legal operations.
Before his promotion, he was senior lead counsel for sports television and corporate legal functions.
Prior to joining Sony Pictures Networks India, Thakkar was assistant vice president legal with Unacademy.
He has also worked with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited as AVP legal for Television and ZEE5 previously.

Prior to this, Thakkar was associated with IndiaCast Media, Sahara India, Nimbus Communications and Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (India) in senior and legal capacities.
The increase indicates a rising need for integrated legal leadership in broadcasting, sports, content production and corporate operations as media companies expand across the television, streaming and sports ecosystems.
