Nestlé India Rejects Maggi Contamination Claims, Cites Independent Lab Tests

Nestlé India has rejected allegations of insect contamination in Maggi noodles, stating that independent FSSAI-accredited laboratory tests found no signs of infestation or safety violations.

Nestlé India has denied reports of insect contamination in its Maggi instant noodles, saying independent lab tests had found no evidence of infestation and confirmed compliance with food safety standards.

The company “categorically rejects” the allegations which it said were based on a single consumer complaint that appeared on social media, the company said in a regulatory filing on Friday.

Nestlé India said the probe has been “hindered by the non-availability of the product sample that is being referred to in the complaint”.

The company said the complainant has been unreachable, which has prevented the company’s quality teams from doing a direct inspection of the product in question.

“We are yet to receive the complaint sample from the complainant as the account is unavailable,” the company said in its filing.

Independent Testing Conducted:

Nestlé said it does not have access to the original sample and has begun an internal verification process reviewing quality records for the manufacturing batch in question and collecting random control samples from retail outlets.

The samples were then tested by a third-party laboratory accredited by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The independent analysis did not find any evidence of insect infestation, contamination or storage related defects and confirmed the products complied with applicable food safety standards, the company said.

Nestlé said it had already made a detailed technical representation to the food safety authorities.

The submission contains the manufacturing batch records, the market sample analysis and the independent laboratory test results.

The documents were meant to provide regulators with a complete assessment of the matter and clarify the circumstances of the complaint, the company said.
