JioHotstar expands AI team with 75+ new roles.

JioHotstar is stepping up its artificial intelligence strategy with a major recruitment drive, opening more than 75 positions as it builds a dedicated AI division aimed at transforming content creation and streaming experiences.

The effort, which Variety reports includes engineering, production automation and creative technology roles, is part of the company’s broader goal of embedding AI into the entire content lifecycle and not just using it as a support function.

According to the reports, the company is pitching the effort as part of a long-term strategy to harness India’s large-scale engineering talent, multilingual audience and digital ecosystem to build AI capabilities to compete globally.

Creative AI Roles:

The recruitment programme will cover both technical and creative roles. The way JioHotstar has brought together the storytelling and tech teams under one structure is also reflected in its roles such as “Visionscaper”, “Soundscaper”, “Creative Technologist” and “Narrative Storytelling Lead”.

Rather than treating creative and technology workflows as separate functions, the goal is to embed artificial intelligence into content development from the earliest stages.

The hiring spree follows JioHotstar’s recent trial of AI-generated content. The platform has recently announced Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh as its first fully AI-generated series.

The project was completed three to five times faster than traditional production schedules, the company said, because ideation, visual creation and post-production processes happened concurrently rather than sequentially.

Platform Innovation:

JioHotstar is also using AI to enhance the experience on the platform beyond creating content. The company already uses conversational AI tools to help users navigate content in different languages, enabling multilingual and voice-based content discovery.

The streaming platform is also working on AI-powered advertising and recommendation systems. Looking forward, we see the potential for content recommendations and ads to adapt dynamically to viewer context and emotional signals, moving beyond traditional browsing interfaces.

The scale of the hiring exercise suggests JioHotstar’s wish to build these competencies internally and not depend heavily on third-party AI platforms.

With the streaming industry heating up, the company is betting that AI-powered production efficiencies, personalised user experiences and stronger in-house technology capabilities will help differentiate its platform in the market.
