Diljit Dosanjh Challenges Alcohol Ban on Songs

Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh is making headlines for his bold stance against censorship. During a recent concert in Ahmedabad, Dosanjh addressed the controversy surrounding his songs with lyrics referencing alcohol.

The issue arose when the Telangana government requested Dosanjh to refrain from promoting alcohol, drugs, and violence in his songs before a concert in Hyderabad. While Dosanjh complied by tweaking the lyrics of some songs, he voiced frustration at what he perceived as "double standards."

At the Ahmedabad concert, Dosanjh took a jab at the Telangana government, stating, "There's good news. I did not get any notice today." He further declared that he wouldn't sing any alcohol-themed songs due to Gujarat being a dry state. However, the audience's mixed reactions about the state's alcohol ban prompted him to clarify his position.

Dosanjh expressed admiration for Gujarat's prohibition policy, if it were truly enforced. He then challenged other states, stating, "You close liquor shops across the country, I will stop singing songs on alcohol." This statement highlights his belief that authorities target artistic expression while allowing the sale of alcohol, which he sees as a more significant societal concern.
