OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Work, Unveils GPT-5.6 for AI-Powered Workflows
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work and GPT-5.6, introducing AI agents for multi-step workflows, automation, coding and productivity across connected apps and files.
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, a new AI agent within ChatGPT designed to automate complex, multi-step tasks across connected applications, files and workflows, alongside the rollout of its latest frontier model, GPT-5.6.
The new ability lets ChatGPT pull information from connected tools and build documents, spreadsheets, presentations and web applications, and also helps with longer-running projects by breaking them down into smaller, manageable tasks.
The experience is powered by GPT-5.6, OpenAI’s latest flagship model, which the company said offers stronger reasoning across complex workflows and can generate content using users’ existing templates, documents and reference files.

Workflow Automation:
OpenAI also said more than 5 million people are now using Codex each week. Originally launched as an AI coding assistant, Codex now has over a million users for activities outside of software development, the company said.
With the update, Codex has now been added to the ChatGPT desktop app, uniting Chat, Work and Codex in a single application for Windows and Mac users. The desktop app now includes a built-in browser, meaning users can visit websites, cloud storage, and online tools without exiting ChatGPT.
The update also introduces a Computer Use feature allowing ChatGPT to perform actions such as clicking, typing, and moving files around in local applications, once given user approval.
The company has also improved its automation capabilities through Scheduled Tasks, which enable users to automate routine workflows such as monitoring websites, summarising updates, refreshing presentations, reviewing messages from collaboration platforms and generating recurring reports.

Connected Workspace:
The company has also announced a unified plugins directory that connects ChatGPT to services including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, SharePoint, email, calendars, customer relationship management software and project management platforms. Connected apps can be referenced directly in prompts by users.
Another addition is Sites, a public beta feature that allows users to build and publish interactive websites and web applications such as dashboards, internal portals, reports and project trackers directly through ChatGPT.
The company updated its Chrome extension so that users can access the chatbot from the sidebar of Chrome. It also confirmed that it will stop supporting its standalone Atlas browser.
ChatGPT Work also has administrative capabilities for enterprise users to manage user permissions, connected services, browser access and compliance needs. Enterprise and education administrators will also have access to spending controls and governance features.
