Apple Bans Home Services Ads on Apple Maps
Apple has barred home services and crypto ATM ads on Apple Maps ahead of its advertising rollout in the US and Canada.
Apple today announced a new advertising policy for Apple Maps, which includes restrictions on a number of business categories ahead of the launch of Maps advertising in the United States and Canada later this summer.
No official launch date has been announced by the company, but it had previously said businesses in the US and Canada will be able to start advertising on Apple Maps this summer as part of its growing Apple Business platform.
Apple has introduced its new Advertising Services policy, which says companies offering home services will no longer be allowed to advertise on Apple Maps. The restriction includes categories such as plumbing, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, pest control, general contracting and roofing.

Advertising Restrictions:
Apple has also banned ads for bail bond services and cryptocurrency ATMs. The company said ads promoting or referencing medical services would be individually reviewed prior to approval.
The policy also says that ads with or promoting cryptocurrency ATMs are not allowed on the platform.
In addition to Maps’ own rules, Apple’s general advertising guidelines still bar content that makes deceptive claims, uses profanity, promotes political campaigns, shows weapons, violence, controlled substances, and other restricted categories.
Apple takes a different approach than Google, which allows many home service providers to advertise through its Local Services Ads program, once they meet verification and eligibility requirements.

The company is also pivoting to a limited ad format within Maps. Apple said there will be only one sponsored listing in search results, which will be denoted with a blue halo around the map pin and clearly marked as an ad in the Suggested Places section.
Apple introduced Maps advertising in March via its Apple Business platform. Businesses need to claim their location on Apple Maps before they can advertise. Sponsored listings will appear at the top of relevant search results and in Suggested Places.
