Bollywood is set to relive some classic comedy magic as Akshay Kumar prepares to reunite with Govinda and Paresh Rawal for the much-anticipated *sequel to the 2006 comedy hit, Bhagam Bhag. With its mix of slapstick, witty dialogue, and fast-paced situations, the original Bhagam Bhag, directed by Priyadarshan, became an instant fan-favorite and has only grown in popularity over the years, now holding a cult status in the world of Bollywood comedy.

According to a report from Pinkvilla, the idea of Bhagam Bhag 2 has already taken root, with the rights for the film acquired by Sarita Ashwin Varde of Roaring River Productions. She is set to co-produce the sequel alongside Shemaroo Entertainment. Though still in the early stages, the film’s development has stirred excitement, especially as Akshay Kumar gears up to reprise his role, promising a fresh take on the original’s unforgettable humor. The team is currently collaborating with a new set of writers to create a script that pays tribute to the film’s comedic legacy while introducing fresh twists and surprises.

A source close to the project shared, “For Akshay, films like Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, and Garam Masala hold a special place, and he’s taken steps to secure the franchise rights for Hera Pheri and Bhagam Bhag.” The source further emphasized the importance of bringing the comic trio back together, as the chemistry among Akshay, Govinda, and Paresh Rawal was a key factor in the original film’s success. “The goal is to develop a script that does justice to the iconic trio’s past work, keeping the humor sharp and relevant,” they added.

The original Bhagam Bhag captivated audiences with its plot full of mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and chaotic events, involving a mix-up with a kidnapped woman. Fans adored the hilarious story of two theatre artists, played by Akshay Kumar and Govinda, who find themselves in absurd situations while performing with their troupe, which included Paresh Rawal. The movie’s quirky characters, memorable dialogues, and comical mix-ups left an indelible mark, making it a film audiences return to for laughs even years later.

If everything falls into place, Bhagam Bhag 2 is expected to begin filming by the end of 2025, with a potential release in 2026. Currently, the search for the perfect director is underway, with the production team working to stay true to the original’s spirit while adding contemporary elements to appeal to today’s audiences.

In addition to Bhagam Bhag 2, Akshay Kumar’s schedule is packed with other exciting projects. He is currently filming Housefull 5, adding to the popular comedy series, and will star in Welcome To The Jungle, a new entry in the Welcome series. Fans can also look forward to seeing Akshay in Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy, as well as Jolly LLB 3, which is expected to release in April 2025.

While Bhagam Bhag 2 is still in its early stages, the prospect of seeing Akshay, Govinda, and Paresh Rawal back together is already creating buzz and anticipation. If successful, the sequel could become another comedy classic, offering a nostalgic nod to the past while providing a fresh dose of laughter.
