IPL 2023 has increased ratings by 29%: Disney Star
Disney Star, the TATA IPL 2023's official television broadcaster, reported that 8.7 billion minutes were seen on TV in total during the inaugural match, a staggering 47% increase from the previous year.
According to the broadcaster, 130 million people watched the first game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, with 140 million tuning in to see the Opening Ceremony.
"We are deeply moved by the tremendous support that #IPLonStar has received from fans all around the nation. The enormous increase in viewing time is evidence of the success of our campaign, our efforts to highlight Star Sports' broadcast's positive qualities, linear television's continued dominance as the preferred platform for uninterrupted live cricket viewing, and, most importantly, the close bond we have with cricket fans. This underlines once more how well-liked the TATA IPL is as the world's top cricket competition. Sanjog Gupta, Head Of Sports, Disney Star, declared, "We will continue to remain devoted in our endeavor to serve fans through the power of narrative, the best-in-class content, and customisation at scale.
Industry sources claim that increased access to Star Sports channels—which are now in roughly 90% of homes, up from 80% during the last IPL—is one of the factors contributing to the IPL's increase in linear TV viewing.
