Xiaomi India Brings Mijia Home Brand to India, Expands Beyond Smartphones
Xiaomi India launches Mijia as its home and lifestyle brand, expanding into connected devices and appliances beyond smartphones.
Xiaomi India has launched its global home and lifestyle brand Mijia in the country. The launch is a big step in the company’s plans to expand beyond smartphones and consumer electronics and strengthen its hold in the connected home and appliances segment.
The launch comes as Xiaomi completes 12 years in India. All future home and lifestyle products in the country will be launched under the “Mijia by Xiaomi” brand, the company said.
Mijia is an established sub-brand in China, offering a range of products such as refrigerators, air conditioners, smart glasses, projectors and other smart home devices.
Xiaomi already sells air purifiers, robotic hoover cleaners, security cameras and other smart home products in India. Mijia is a dedicated home and lifestyle brand Xiaomi is looking to consolidate its growing range of connected products under one brand and make its ecosystem easier for consumers to understand.
Building a Connected Home Ecosystem:
The Mijia launch is part of Xiaomi’s broader strategy to create an interconnected technology ecosystem. Over the years, the company has expanded from smartphones into categories such as smart TVs, tablets, and AIoT devices.
Mijia is Xiaomi's move to pay more attention to the home segment of its global "Human × Car × Home" strategy, which aims to connect personal devices, vehicles and home products via a common ecosystem.
The launch highlights the company’s long-term commitment to India and its intention to enter more product categories, the company said.
Xiaomi has not provided detailed timelines for launches of individual Mijia products, but comments from its executives show the company is gearing up for a wider push into large home appliances. Appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators could eventually be added to the Mijia portfolio in India.
Competition in Home Appliances:
The expansion could see Xiaomi come into more direct competition with established appliance brands such as Samsung, LG and Haier, which have strong positions in India's home appliances market.
Mijia’s future products will likely be sold thru Xiaomi’s existing online and offline channels, including its own retail stores and large electronics retailers.
The launch of Mijia is yet another milestone in Xiaomi’s journey of transforming from a smartphone-only company to a more general consumer tech player in India. The brand could be an important part of Xiaomi’s next phase of growth in the market, with smart and connected home products expected to play a larger role.
