CEOs from Microsoft, Alphabet, OpenAI, Nvidia, and others join US advisory board to safeguard critical infrastructure from AI threats, ensuring national security
Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Alphabet's Sundar Pichai, OpenAI's Sam Altman, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, and 18 other industry leaders have united on a US advisory board. Their mission? To counsel the federal government on safeguarding critical infrastructure against AI threats.
This strategic move is driven by a pressing need to shield essential systems like power grids, airports, and transportation from the potential dangers posed by artificial intelligence. The board's primary objective is to develop actionable recommendations aimed at preventing and preparing for AI-induced disruptions that could compromise national security, economic stability, public health, or safety.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting both the transformative potential and inherent risks associated with AI technology. He stressed the importance of practical, real-world solutions over theoretical discourse, underlining the board's focus on implementing AI responsibly to enhance daily life in the nation.
The advisory board boasts an impressive lineup, including key figures such as Anthropic's Dario Amodei, IBM's Arvind Krishna, Adobe's Shantanu Narayen, Cisco's Chuck Robbins, Amazon Web Services' Adam Selipsky, and Advanced Micro Devices' Lisa Su. Additional members include executives from Deta Air Lines, Occidental Petroleum, Northrop Grumman, as well as prominent political figures like Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell.
Scheduled to convene quarterly, the inaugural meeting of this esteemed group is set for May, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to navigate the evolving landscape of AI and its implications for national security and public welfare.
