MX Player, the top OTT platform in India, has achieved yet another milestone that solidifies its position as the industry leader.
According to the State of Mobile 2023 Report from Data.ai (formerly App Annie), the top OTT platform in India, MX Player has achieved yet another milestone, solidifying its position as the industry leader. According to the report, MX Player is the most downloaded video streaming app worldwide, coming in third place behind YouTube and Netflix and topping Hotstar, Zee5, and JioTV in India. With a remarkable lineup of MX Original Series, including Campus Diaries, Aashram Season 3, Dharavi Bank, and many other highly regarded series, the entertainment super app has enjoyed consistent success in 2022.
Due to India's growing OTT content consumption, MX Player has experienced exponential growth since its February 2019 launch. MX Player, known for its excellent stories in a variety of genres that appeal to a wide age range, was ranked #4 in India by MAU by likelihood of use among users between the ages of 18 and 24. In terms of the Top Apps by Monthly Active Users (MAUs), it was ranked #9 in India, but it achieved an impressive ranking of #3 among the most popular iOS AppStore Keywords in the Entertainment OTT category in 2022.
The OTT platform has not only solidified its position in India but also broadened its appeal on the international entertainment scene. It is currently ranked third globally and fourth in Singapore in terms of downloads. It also has a global reach of 17+ markets, including, among others, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The report claims that in 2022, 255 billion new apps were downloaded by iOS, Google Play, and Third-Party users, representing an 11% increase in app downloads. The data also emphasises the increase in user time spent, which now averages 5 hours daily and amounts to 4.1 trillion hours spent by all users. It states that $167 billion was spent on app stores, and that in 2022, India would rank as the 44th-largest country in the world for the massive $336 billion that will be spent on mobile advertisements.
The Times Network's in-house streaming service, MX Player, also achieved an astounding download ranking of #8 among the Top Companies in India.
