The Guardian Exits Musk's X, Citing “Disturbing Content” Concerns

In a major decision, The Guardian has announced that it will cease posting on Elon Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) from all official accounts, citing the rise in “often disturbing content” as a driving factor. This decision affects more than 80 accounts with a combined 27 million followers on the platform, as the news outlet states that the drawbacks of remaining on X now outweigh the benefits.

In an official statement, the Guardian said, “We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X.” The organization cited its concerns over far-right conspiracy theories and racist content proliferating on the platform, adding that X’s handling of US presidential election coverage was a tipping point for the decision.

According to the Guardian, this move reflects “something we have been considering for a while” as concerns about “often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform” have continued to grow. While the Guardian’s official accounts will stop posting, users on X can still share Guardian articles, and the publication may embed posts from X in live coverage if they are relevant to news stories.
