SBI General Insurance Names Shrish Mahuli as Chief Business Officer

SBI General Insurance has appointed Shrish Ramchandra Mahuli as Chief Business Officer, a move that comes as the company looks to strengthen its leadership bench and drive the next phase of growth across its business lines. The appointment signals a sharper focus on expanding distribution, improving customer engagement, and building a more scalable growth framework in an increasingly competitive insurance market.

In his new role, Mahuli will be responsible for shaping the company’s overall business strategy, with a strong emphasis on widening distribution channels and accelerating customer-centric initiatives. His mandate also includes strengthening the company’s presence across key markets, at a time when insurance adoption in India is seeing steady momentum driven by rising awareness and evolving consumer expectations.

Mahuli brings over 24 years of experience across the insurance and automotive sectors. Over the years, he has held leadership roles at organizations such as Reliance General Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, and Tata Motors. His work has largely focused on scaling businesses, building distribution strength, and driving sustainable growth across markets.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering along with a postgraduate degree in Marketing (MMS) from Mumbai University, combining technical understanding with business strategy experience.

Commenting on the appointment, Naveen Chandra Jha, MD and CEO of SBI General Insurance, said, “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mahuli at a time when the industry is witnessing strong momentum driven by rising awareness and evolving customer needs. His deep domain expertise and proven leadership in scaling businesses will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our distribution footprint and drive profitable growth.”

Mahuli added, “I am pleased to join SBI General Insurance at a time when the industry is evolving rapidly. The company’s strong foundation and growth ambitions present a great opportunity to contribute meaningfully. I look forward to working with the team to further strengthen the business.”

The timing of this leadership move is significant. India’s general insurance sector is undergoing a shift, with increased digital adoption, product innovation, and growing demand for personalized offerings. For insurers, distribution remains a key differentiator—spanning agency networks, bancassurance partnerships, and digital platforms. Strengthening leadership in this area is critical for scaling reach while maintaining profitability.

For brands and marketers within financial services, the focus is clearly moving toward deeper customer engagement and simplified product communication. As competition intensifies, companies are investing in leadership that can balance expansion with efficiency. Mahuli’s appointment reflects this shift, where growth is not just about scale, but also about building stronger, more responsive customer ecosystems.
