D2C Power Play: Nykaa & L’Oréal BOLD Partner to Back Next-Gen Indian Beauty Entrepreneurs

Nykaa and L’Oréal’s venture fund BOLD join forces to empower emerging Indian D2C beauty brands through minority investments, strategic mentorship, and retail expansion while preserving founder independence.

D2C Power Play: Nykaa & L’Oréal BOLD Partner to Back Next-Gen Indian Beauty Entrepreneurs

In a major strategic move for India’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) and retail landscape, e-commerce beauty titan Nykaa has partnered with Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development (BOLD)—the corporate venture capital fund of global beauty leader L’Oréal. The two industry giants are joining hands to co-invest in fast-growing, homegrown Indian beauty and personal care startups.

Under the agreement, both companies will acquire financial minority stakes in selected emerging brands, ensuring that founders retain full operational ownership, creative control, and business independence.

Strategic Mentorship Meets Global Expertise

The initiative extends far beyond financial backing. The joint venture aims to create an acceleration framework designed to transition promising early-stage startups into enduring consumer brands. Participating founders will gain direct access to:

  • L’Oréal’s Global R&D & Science: Insights drawn from world-class formulations, product innovation, and deep beauty technology expertise.
  • Nykaa’s Retail Ecosystem: Leveraging an extensive omnichannel distribution network, deep consumer insights, and established retail footprint across India.
  • Founder Autonomy: Complete creative and operational freedom, allowing teams to preserve their unique brand identities and organizational culture.

Industry Leaders on the Indian Growth Story

Highlighting India’s position as one of the world’s most dynamic markets, Jacques Lebel, Managing Director at L’Oréal India, pointed to the country's rapidly evolving consumer base and vibrant entrepreneurial talent pool.

"India is one of the most exciting beauty markets in the world, and its energy comes both from an expanding base of demanding consumers with rapidly evolving needs and from its ecosystem of tremendous entrepreneurs," said Lebel. "Through BOLD and this partnership with Nykaa, we want to stand behind that talent — backing founders with capital, mentorship, and L'Oréal's beauty expertise, while leaving them free to build their brands their way. Our commitment to India is stronger than ever, and this is the next major milestone in a journey of partnership and growth that we began over three decades ago."

Anchit Nayar, Executive Director and CEO of Nykaa Beauty, noted that the collaboration builds on over a decade of shared vision between the two companies.

"Nykaa and L'Oreal have been partners in India for over a decade, working together on our shared vision of making India into one of the world's largest and fastest-growing beauty markets," Nayar stated. "The experience and lessons we have learned along the way have allowed us to understand what it takes to build a promising brand into an enduring one. Combining our consumer ecosystem, retail network and distribution with L’Oréal’s global beauty expertise will be an asset to the next generation of founders as they look to build consumer brands that India can be proud of."

Shaping the Future of Brand Scaling

Building a sustainable consumer brand today requires more than just capital—it demands performance marketing, distinct identity, and scalable retail distribution. By aligning Nykaa’s local market dominance with L’Oréal’s global beauty infrastructure, this partnership bridges the gap between early D2C traction and long-term enterprise value. For emerging Indian entrepreneurs, it creates a powerful ecosystem built for sustainable growth on both domestic and global stages.
