Google TV Freeplay Adds 10,000+ Free Movies
Google TV Freeplay adds 10,000+ free movies and shows, expanding its ad-supported service beyond live channels.
Google is adding a new video-on-demand library to its ad-supported Google TV Freeplay service, letting users choose films and TV shows instead of just watching live channels.
The service now has over 10,000 free films and TV shows and doesn’t require a subscription. The catalogue includes titles like Lady Bird and Seventeen Again from studios like A24 and Lionsgate, and shows like Hell’s Kitchen, Google said.
Freeplay is launching the on-demand library to supplement its existing live TV offering. Google also expanded its live channel lineup, now offering more than 300 channels, from news and sports to reality TV and true crime.
New additions include World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network and The Martha Stewart Channel.

Freeplay Adds On-Demand Viewing:
So far, Google TV Freeplay has been all about free live channels, with ads. With the latest update, users can select specific movies & shows to watch them whenever they want.
The Freeplay interface now features separate sections for “Live TV” and “Free films & shows” allowing viewers to easily switch between live programming and on-demand content.
Google said it will continue to update the on-demand catalogue throughout the year.

The service is based on the free ad-supported television (FAST) model, which allows users to access content without a subscription and generate revenue thru advertising.
In December 2025 Freeplay had over 250 live channels and now it's over 300 channels.
Google said the new on-demand feature is available starting August 12, turning Freeplay into a broader free streaming platform beyond a primarily live-channel service.
