BigBasket's Heartwarming Christmas Film Delivers Accidental Cheer

BigBasket’s new Christmas film tells the touching story of an elderly couple who, with the help of a broken phone and a BigBasket delivery executive, accidentally spread Christmas cheer to their neighborhood. The film, titled Judy the Star, was produced by Pu Productions and is a continuation of the partnership between Talented and BigBasket, following their previous Children’s Day campaign. It explores the authentic spirit of Christmas through the lens of everyday life, showing how small moments of joy can transform into something larger.

The film’s heartwarming narrative captures the essence of Christmas in a unique, Indian way. The elderly couple, despite their age and the challenges they face, create a joyful atmosphere that touches everyone around them. Their journey begins when a broken phone leads to a series of mix-ups, eventually resulting in a group of twelve huge stars arriving at their doorstep, courtesy of the BigBasket delivery executive. The cheerful mix-up adds a sense of magic to the mundane, perfectly embodying the warmth and generosity of Christmas.

Raagaleena Sripada, the marketing head at BigBasket Retail, explained, “This campaign was created to showcase the joy and convenience of celebrating Christmas with BigBasket. We understand that Christmas is not just about gifts, but about creating memories and joy. With our service, whether it’s decorating your home, enjoying festive treats like cakes and cookies, or buying the perfect gifts like toys or electronics, BigBasket ensures everything you need is delivered to your doorstep in just 10 minutes.” She emphasized that the campaign highlights the true spirit of giving that defines the Christmas season.

Leena Gupta and Aakash Desai from Talented, the creators behind the film, shared that it was important for them to present an authentic representation of Christmas. “It’s rare to see an Indian version of Christmas in advertising. Most portrayals focus on the typical Santa Claus imagery, but we wanted to show something closer to real-life celebrations. By focusing on an elderly couple—who are often overlooked in advertising—we crafted a story that feels genuine and heartfelt,” said Gupta and Desai. They were careful to highlight themes of generosity and giving, which are at the core of the holiday.

The film’s director, Deepak Thomas, added, “Instead of focusing on the typical mishap of wrong orders, we painted a world where a broken phone leads to a magical Christmas moment. Filming Judy and the BigBasket delivery executive as they navigated the charming streets of Bandra was a delight. It brought the neighborhood to life and added a magical charm to the story.”

The combination of unexpected joy, heartwarming moments, and the genuine portrayal of Christmas in an Indian context makes BigBasket’s Christmas film stand out. It serves as a reminder that the true essence of Christmas is not just in the grand gestures, but in the small moments that bring people together. The film is a celebration of family, community, and the joy of giving.
