Aadhaar App Crosses 4 Crore Downloads as Digital Identity Adoption Grows

The Aadhaar app has crossed 4 crore downloads and is a significant milestone with more users taking up digital first identity services and increasingly relying on smartphones for Aadhaar related updates and verification.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said the app has become a one-stop platform for Aadhaar users, allowing residents to update personal details, access e-Aadhaar, manage security settings and avail of various identity-related services without visiting physical enrolment or update centres.
The app has been helpful in updating more than 11.65 lakh addresses since its launch and users can update their Aadhaar records at their home. It has also processed nearly 49 lakh mobile number updates, enabling residents to keep their contact details linked to their Aadhaar accounts up to date.

Privacy Features:
The recently launched email update feature in the app is also seeing strong adoption. Since the launch on July 1, the platform has added or updated around 12.5 lakh email addresses.
The government has waived the earlier fee of ₹75 for the email update service and is now offering it free of cost till 31st December, 2026, to promote wider adoption.
Privacy and security features are also increasingly influencing usage. The government data said the biometric lock and unlock feature on the Aadhaar app has been used over 1.91 crore times.

The feature enables Aadhaar holders to lock and unlock their biometrics instantly whenever authentication is needed, providing greater control to users over their personal identity data.
Officials said the milestone reflected growing confidence in the use of digital identity services and supported the government’s broader Digital India initiative to extend digital governance and paperless services to citizens.
