Food delivery giant Swiggy has expanded its horizons beyond food delivery and has acquired the Mumbai team in the World Pickleball League (WPBL). This move marks Swiggy's foray into the world of sports and aligns with its strategy to engage with consumers in fresh and meaningful ways.

The WPBL, India's first professional pickleball league, is set to take place from January 24 to February 2, 2025. With the league's inaugural season being held in Mumbai, Swiggy's team will have the opportunity to play in front of their home crowd.

Pickleball, a relatively new sport, has been gaining significant traction in recent years. It's a fun and easy-to-learn sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Swiggy's involvement in the WPBL is expected to further popularize the sport in India.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, expressed his excitement about the partnership. He stated, "We believe that pickleball is a great sport for people of all ages. It's a fun way to stay active and socialize. We're thrilled to be a part of the WPBL and to support the growth of the sport in India."

Gaurav Natekar, co-founder and CEO of WPBL, welcomed Swiggy's entry into the league. He said, "We're excited to have a brand like Swiggy join the WPBL family. Their involvement will help us reach a wider audience and elevate the league to new heights."

As Swiggy continues to innovate and expand its business, its foray into sports is a testament to its commitment to providing unique and engaging experiences to its customers.
