Meesho has announced the acquisition of Kirana Club, a community-led B2B commerce platform serving millions of kirana store owners across India.

With this acquisition, Meesho enters the B2B retail ecosystem at scale and further accelerates its efforts to expand digital commerce access to small businesses and retailers across India.

Expanding Beyond Consumer Commerce:

Founded in 2020 by Anshul Gupta and Aishwarya Jain, Kirana Club has built a network of over 4.1 million registered retailers through its mobile-first platform.

The platform helps kirana owners find, compare and buy FMCG and grocery products directly from brands, creating a marketplace for retailers in non-metro and underserved markets.

The acquisition provides Meesho with deeper access to India’s grocery market, estimated at over $650 billion, where kirana stores and general trade channels account for the overwhelming majority of sales.

Meesho said, “Kirana Club will operate independently as a part of the group.

Kirana Club’s asset-light, community-driven model is very much in line with Meesho’s philosophy of being a marketplace that is focused on growing access through technology while keeping operational efficiency in mind, the company said.

Strengthening B2B Commerce:

The acquisition gives Meesho a ready platform to build a larger B2B commerce business across categories.

Meesho disrupted consumer commerce with its third-party marketplace model, and Kirana Club is taking that to small retailers with a zero-inventory, zero-field-sales B2B marketplace made for kirana stores.

The platform helps retailers source products digitally, while helping brands increase reach into smaller towns and underserved areas.
