Global Outage Sends Facebook and Instagram Users into a Frenzy

On Tuesday evening, Facebook and Instagram faced a widespread outage, leaving users in India and various parts of the world unable to log in or refresh their pages. Some even reported being prompted to change passwords.

As the news trended on X, Andy Stone, Communications Director at Meta, took to the microblogging platform, stating, "We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now." The cause of the outage remains undisclosed, sparking concerns among users of potential cyber attacks.

Panic spread among Facebook and Instagram users, with fears of security breaches haunting many. Services were eventually restored by Tuesday night, accompanied by an official statement from Tracy Clayton of Meta Public Affairs: “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

In a characteristically irreverent fashion, Elon Musk, owner of X, made a snide remark at the situation, stating, "If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working." Reports also indicated issues with WhatsApp Business via Meta's application programming interface, although outages for WhatsApp and Threads were not as widespread.

Users took to X to share humorous takes on the outage, highlighting the resilience of the community in turning a technical hiccup into a moment of online camaraderie.
