FIFA World Cup 2026 became India’s most-watched OTT property on Zee 5 with 15M viewers, driven by late-night streaming and regional growth.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 emerged as India’s most-watched OTT property during the week of July 13–19, according to data from Ormax StreamView. Streaming exclusively on Zee 5, the global tournament drew an estimated 15 million viewers.
Despite match broadcasts occurring in the middle of the night, viewership remained exceptionally high. Nearly 40 percent of peak concurrent viewership was recorded during late-night fixtures broadcast between midnight and 4:00 AM IST.

Surge in Operational Growth:
The tournament delivered substantial operational metrics for Zee 5 throughout its run from June 1 to July 19:
- Total Watch Time: Increased by 79 percent.
- App Engagement: Daily app installations and new subscriptions grew by 55 percent.
The performance represents one of the platform’s largest live sports streaming successes to date, heavily propelled by adoption outside primary metropolitan centers. Tier-2 markets contributed over 45 percent of total watch time, signaling expanding regional demand for international football across India.
Viewing Preferences & Regional Reach:
The tournament highlighted a structural shift toward connected TV and home device viewing, which accounted for 53 percent of total match views.
While English served as the primary commentary language, Zee 5’s regional strategy expanded overall reach through multilingual broadcasts in Hindi, Malayalam, and Bengali.
