Vodafone Idea, Meta Partner To Launch Silent Mobile Verification For Vi Users
Vodafone Idea and Meta have partnered to launch Silent Mobile Verification for Vi users on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, enabling faster and more secure authentication.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Meta announced the launch of Silent Mobile Verification (SMV) capabilities for Vi subscribers on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram to make digital authentication fast, safe and password-free.
According to reports, the new solution leverages the network-based authentication technology to verify users’ mobile numbers in the background, without requiring them to enter one-time passwords (OTPs), switch between applications or wait for SMS-based verification messages.
In the integrated scenario, verification requests are authenticated directly in the telecom network of Vi, offering a seamless user experience and minimising friction in the account access and verification phases.

Secure User Verification:
The companies said the capability will enable a number of user journeys across Meta platforms, including new user registration, mobile number verification, logging in and re-logging in, account recovery and authentication during security checks.
The program is designed to make the onboarding process easier, offer more convenience and strengthen defences against phishing attempts and identity related fraud.
The collaboration arrives amid a growing emphasis by digital platforms, telecom operators and policymakers on bolstering trust and security in India’s fast-growing digital ecosystem. Network-based verification technologies such as SMV are emerging as an important tool to enable secure and reliable authentication across online services.

“The collaboration is a big step towards making verification more secure and user-friendly,” said Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head, India at Meta.

The launch underscores the increasing adoption of telecom-powered authentication solutions as organisations seek to transition away from legacy OTP-based verification systems and enhance digital security for end users.
