Netflix has unveiled the first look of Best of the Best, a coming-of-age comedy starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, ahead of its September 18 premiere.

Netflix has released the first look of Best of the Best, a coming-of-age comedy set in the high-stakes world of college Bollywood-fusion dance. The film will premiere worldwide September 18.

Directed by Lena Khan and written by Prashanth Venkataramanujam and Hasan Minhaj, the film is about two childhood best friends who must compete for the U.S. Championship with UCLA’s Bollywood-fusion dance team.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan plays Maya, Priyanka Kedia plays Anjali. In their pursuit of the title, they find the road to the championship is much more fierce and challenging than they had anticipated.

Dance Drama:

The ensemble cast stars Ankur Rathee, Janina Gavankar, Chaneil Kular, Becky Alex, Shreya Navile and Hasan Minhaj while Lilly Singh, Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, Saara Chaudry and Sasha Bhasin play pivotal roles.

The film is directed by Lena Khan and produced for Rideback by Jonathan Eirich with Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam via 186K Films. Executive producers, Ellen H. Schwartz, Ryan Halprin.

Set in the world of college dance competitions, Best of the Best mixes humour with friendship, ambition and cultural identity, as it examines the pressures of competition and the bonds that tie teammates together.

Adding to Netflix’s ever-growing roster of youth-focused original films featuring South Asian talent and stories, the movie is a medley of dance, comedy and coming-of-age storytelling.

Best of the Best will start streaming exclusively on Netflix September 18.
