KFC Taps House Parties to Promote Double Chicken Dynamite Burger Among Gen Z

In an unusual move to market its Double Chicken Dynamite Burger, KFC has broken away from traditional advertising and teamed up with community platform PlayAce to throw a series of curated house parties targeting Gen Z consumers.

The quick service restaurant (QSR) chain didn’t just use paid media to promote the new burger; it brought the burger into social settings where young consumers naturally gather with friends, hoping to drive product discovery through shared experiences and peer recommendations.

The campaign was built on the insight that memorable food experiences are more often created around conversations and gatherings than around advertisements. KFC instead integrated the product into existing communities via PlayAce, which has a network of over 30,000 members, rather than inviting consumers to branded events.

Community Marketing:

Through 4 weekends, KFC and PlayAce hosted 10 curated house parties across 3 metro cities, engaging hundreds of participants for themed gatherings around the Double Chicken Dynamite Burger.

The playful themes and product-led challenges of the events were designed to foster genuine interactions, rather than traditional brand activations. The aim was to create experiences that would generate social media content, without being promotional.

The activation generated participation from creators and user-generated content, extending the reach of the campaign beyond the attendees.

“We didn’t want to intrude on conversations that were already happening – we just wanted to join in,” a KFC spokesperson said of the initiative.

"For Double Chicken Dynamite, we didn't want to interrupt conversations, we wanted to become one. Partnering with PlayAce allowed us to take the product into authentic social settings where Gen Z naturally gathers, creating experiences that people wanted to talk about and share," the spokesperson said.

KFC’s approach was to embed the burger in social occasions rather than at the centre of a promotional event, to capitalise on peer recommendations, knowing that shared experiences are increasingly influential in purchasing decisions among younger consumers.
