KFC Foundation Thailand Highlights ‘KFC Harvest’ Initiative to Tackle Food Waste and Hunger
KFC Foundation Thailand has highlighted its KFC Harvest programme, which has delivered over two million meals by redistributing surplus food while reducing waste and carbon emissions.
Following World Environment Day, the KFC Foundation Thailand has spotlighted its long-running sustainability initiative, KFC Harvest, reaffirming its commitment to reducing food waste while supporting communities facing food insecurity.
The programme, which is rooted in the message “No Waste. No Hunger.”, addresses two of the world’s biggest issues-by redirecting excess food from KFC restaurants to those in need instead of throwing it away.
The initiative was launched after it was realised that fried chicken that has exceeded its restaurant holding time cannot be sold even though it is still fresh, safe and of the same quality. Instead of throwing away the chicken, participating restaurants safely store and freeze it before turning it into healthy meals for vulnerable communities.

Community Impact:
The donated chicken was known at KFC restaurants as “Kai Nong”, an informal term of endearment, meaning “chicken for the kids,” and was used for providing meals to children in local communities. Over time, the name was embraced by recipient communities, becoming a symbol of care and support.
In addition to fighting hunger, KFC Harvest has been working to help the environment. The initiative has helped cut down food waste and delivered over two million meals across Thailand in the last six years. The KFC Foundation said the programme has reduced carbon emissions equivalent to planting over 15,000 trees.
Currently, over 500 KFC outlets in Thailand are part of the Kai Nong programme, with a plan to expand the network to 600 outlets by 2027 to reach even more communities.

Supported by franchise partners, the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS Foundation), local communities and volunteers, the programme works with them to ensure surplus food is safely distributed to those who need it most.
The KFC Foundation said the program is an expression of its belief that caring for people and caring for the environment go hand in hand. KFC Harvest is expanding to further transform surplus food into meaningful support for communities and reduce environmental impact.
