JioStar’s Global Play: JioHotstar Enters Nepal via Strategic Partnership with DGO Platform
JioHotstar partners with Nepal’s OTT platform DGO to expand its international footprint, bringing premier Indian content, local cinema, and live sports at competitive pricing starting from NPR 249/month.
Strategic Alliance to Fuel Cross-Border OTT Penetration
In a significant move to strengthen its international footprint, JioHotstar has announced its expansion into Nepal through a strategic partnership with local streaming platform DGO. Following successful rollouts in the UK, Canada, Singapore, and across the MENA region, the collaboration marks another major milestone in JioHotstar’s global distribution strategy.
Under this multi-tiered agreement, DGO will feature a dedicated JioHotstar hub offering Nepali audiences access to a rich repository of Indian entertainment—ranging from flagship original series and reality formats to blockbuster feature films and dedicated kids' programming.
Power-Packed Content Library Tailored for Local Affinity
The launch catalogue is designed to resonate with Nepal’s strong demand for Indian pop culture and entertainment. Viewers will gain access to high-octane blockbusters such as Bhediya, 12th Fail, Kesari Chapter 2, Super 30, and Welcome to the Jungle.
In addition to theatrical releases, the partnership introduces acclaimed JioHotstar Originals to the region, including titles like Hunkkaar, Pritam & Pedro, Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, Special Ops, and Chiraiya. Popular reality formats and non-fiction hits like Bigg Boss, Koffee with Karan, and India Ka Top 1 Percent, along with select Hindi regional content, round out the initial offering.
Competitive Pricing and Ecosystem Integration
To ensure seamless adoption across urban and regional markets, JioHotstar content will be integrated directly into DGO’s Mobile and Plus subscription tiers. The launch pricing starts at an accessible NPR 249 per month, allowing broad access across iOS, Android, Android TV, and Smart TV platforms.
To complement the imported library, DGO will continue to stream its homegrown slate of Nepali movies and shows while committing to a weekly release of a new Nepali film. Furthermore, subscribers will enjoy access to premium live international sporting events, including LaLiga, MotoGP, and the Carabao Cup.
Leadership Insights: Bridging Scale and Local Consumer Convenience
Amit Malhotra, Head – International Business, JioStar: "JioHotstar’s international expansion is bringing together the scale of what we have created in India and the demand for Indian entertainment overseas. Nepal is an important part of that journey, with audiences who have followed our films, television shows and talent for generations. With DGO, we can give that audience a much broader offering, combining JioHotstar’s entertainment with the convenience of a local platform."
Roshan Niraula, Chief Executive Officer, DGO: "This partnership is a milestone for DGO and for Nepal’s entertainment industry. Our ambition is to give Nepali viewers more reasons to choose DGO every day, from JioHotstar’s films and shows to a new Nepali film every week and live international sport. We are bringing that choice together on a platform built for Nepal, at pricing designed for our viewers."
Building a Global Digital Entertainment Ecosystem
The expansion highlights how streaming giants are moving away from purely direct-to-consumer launches in smaller markets, opting instead for hybrid distribution models. By embedding into established local infrastructure like DGO, JioHotstar accelerates user acquisition, reduces local marketing overhead, and deepens viewer engagement across international territories.
