IPL 2024: Starc's record deal: Full list sold, unsold players
At the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, Mitchell Starc clinched a record ₹24.75 crore deal, making him the costliest player for Kolkata Knight Riders
The IPL 2024 auction in Dubai witnessed astounding player trades, setting new benchmarks in cricket history. Mitchell Starc, representing Australia, emerged as the costliest player in IPL's annals, securing a staggering ₹24.75 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This feat shattered the earlier record held by Pat Cummins, who was snagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹20.5 crore merely an hour earlier.
The auction spectacle unfolded with ten teams vying for 332 players across 77 available slots. Fast-bowling prowess became a prime focus for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals, sparking intense bidding wars, particularly for overseas pacers.
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) initiated a fervent bidding tussle, later superseded by Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The bidding war escalated, ultimately pushing KKR to secure Starc for the record-breaking ₹24.75 crore.
The auction showcased monumental deals: Indian pacers Umesh Yadav and Shivam Mavi were acquired for ₹5.8 crore and ₹6.4 crore, respectively. Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand fetched ₹14 crore, while Harshal Patel was bought for ₹11.75 crore by Punjab Kings. Rovman Powell, the West Indies T20 captain, went to Rajasthan Royals for a staggering ₹7.40 crore from a base price of ₹1 crore.
However, several notable players like Rilee Rossouw, Steve Smith, Karun Nair, and Manish Pandey found no takers at the auction.
