Govt Invites Public to Design Logo and Tagline for Gaming Authority

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced a nationwide competition inviting citizens to design the official logo and tagline for the upcoming Online Gaming Authority of India. The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to establish a structured regulatory identity under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025.

The contest is open to all Indian citizens, including designers, artists, and creative professionals. Submissions are being accepted exclusively through the MyGov platform, with participants required to submit original concepts that reflect the Authority’s mandate of responsible digital technology use and safe gaming practices.

To encourage participation, the Ministry has announced a structured prize pool. The winning logo design will receive ₹1 lakh, while nine runners-up will be awarded ₹10,000 each. For the tagline, the top prize stands at ₹50,000, with nine additional winners receiving ₹5,000 each. Entries must be submitted by May 12, 2026.

This initiative stems directly from the PROG Act, 2025, which received Presidential assent in August last year. The Act is designed to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for India’s online gaming sector, particularly addressing concerns around real money gaming platforms. Its objectives include restricting such formats, reducing associated social and economic risks, and strengthening data privacy and consumer protection.

The creation of a formal brand identity for the Authority signals a shift in how regulation is being communicated. Rather than operating purely as a policy body, the Authority is being positioned with a distinct public facing identity, indicating a more structured and visible approach to governance in the digital space.

Entries will be evaluated by an expert panel chaired by the Joint Secretary of MeitY’s Cyber Laws Division. The judging criteria will focus on creativity, simplicity, and alignment with the Authority’s core principles. The selected logo and tagline will become the intellectual property of the Authority and will form the foundation of its official communication going forward.

For brands, platforms, and stakeholders in the gaming ecosystem, this move reflects the government’s intent to tighten oversight while also building institutional clarity around regulation. As the sector continues to grow rapidly, particularly among younger users, the need for structured governance and clear communication is becoming more pronounced.

From a broader perspective, this also highlights how government bodies are increasingly using crowdsourced creativity to build public engagement and ownership. By opening up the branding process, MeitY is not only sourcing ideas but also encouraging wider participation in shaping the identity of a regulatory institution.

As India’s online gaming market evolves, the establishment of the Authority and even its branding marks a step toward more formalised oversight, where policy, communication, and public perception intersect.
