Sony Sports Network secures Major League Cricket 2024 rights in India
Sony already holds broadcast rights for New Zealand Cricket, England Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket, and India's T20I tour of Zimbabwe
Culver Max Entertainment, the owner and operator of Sony Sports Network, India's prominent sports broadcaster, has announced the acquisition of exclusive television rights for the Major League Cricket (MLC) T20 spectacle in India for the upcoming year. The league's second edition will commence with the reigning champions MI New York taking on Seattle Orcas in the opener at Church Street Park, Morrisville, with live coverage in India starting on July 6, 2024. The tournament's grand finale is scheduled for July 29, 2024, at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, also to be broadcast live in India.
MLC has played a pivotal role in the burgeoning cricket scene in the United States, capturing the attention of India's enthusiastic cricket community. The participation of prominent Indian cricket franchises such as Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings promises to elevate excitement among their respective fan bases. Star cricketers including Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran are anticipated to showcase their skills in this upcoming season.
The second season of MLC features a stellar lineup of commentators, including former Indian cricket team captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, legendary Pakistani bowler Wasim Akram, former New Zealand and Auckland cricketer Danny Morrison, along with Daren Ganga, Pommie Mbangwa, Matthew Hayden, Chris Morris, Natalie Germanos, Scott Styris, and Mike Haysman.
Sony Sports Network's cricket portfolio already includes broadcasting rights for New Zealand Cricket, England Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket, and most recently, the India Tour of Zimbabwe T20I series.
