Myntra Ropes in Jeetendra for 19th Birthday Blast Film
Myntra celebrates its 19th anniversary with a Birthday Blast film featuring Jeetendra, blending nostalgia and humour to promote its flagship sale event.
As Myntra completes 19 years, the fashion and lifestyle platform has released a social media film featuring veteran actor Jeetendra as part of its annual Birthday Blast campaign. The casting draws on the actor’s long-standing cultural association with birthday celebrations, referencing the song that has been a staple at Indian birthday parties for decades.
The film opens at a lively birthday gathering where friends assemble around the birthday boy. Just as the group begins singing, Jeetendra steps in confidently, launching into a heartfelt “Happy Birthday to you, Sunita.” A pause follows. The birthday boy gently corrects him: “Sir, myself Balaji.” What unfolds is a comedic attempt by Jeetendra’s team to steer him away from his nostalgic slip and channel his energy toward the real objective — wishing Myntra on its birthday.
The film ends with the line: “Myntra ka birthday toh… sabko pata hai. Jeetu Ji ko bhi.” The messaging ties the platform’s sale event to a larger cultural memory, using humour and familiarity to anchor brand recall.
Neha Gulati, Senior Director, Brand Marketing, Myntra, described the Birthday Blast as both a shopping event and a cultural moment. “With Jeetendra, we found the perfect protagonist, someone whose connection to birthday celebrations runs so deep that it invokes both nostalgia and humour,” she said, adding that his comic timing helped the story feel contemporary while retaining familiarity.
Jeetendra said the concept blends nostalgia with humour in a way that feels relevant to current audiences. “It was exciting to collaborate on a film that celebrates Myntra’s journey while bringing a light-hearted and entertaining experience to audiences,” he noted.
The creative has been developed by Talented Agency, with Vaibhav Pachisia and Sanket Audhi leading the concept. They pointed to the cross-generational recognition associated with Jeetendra’s birthday persona as a key creative lever. The film was produced in collaboration with Lemonade Creatives and director Ranjey Jha.
Myntra’s Birthday Blast is positioned as its flagship fashion, beauty and lifestyle sale, timed to coincide with the summer wardrobe refresh period. Early access for Myntra Insiders begins on 27 February, with the event opening to all users on 28 February.
From a marketing standpoint, the campaign reflects a broader trend of digital-first brands leaning into cultural nostalgia to cut through clutter during high-traffic sale periods. Instead of focusing purely on discounts or product assortments, the communication centres on a recognisable personality and a shared memory. For e-commerce platforms competing in a crowded promotional calendar, personality-led storytelling can help differentiate seasonal sales from routine discount cycles.
The use of humour also signals how sale events are increasingly treated as entertainment properties on social media, designed to generate shares and engagement rather than just transactional clicks. By framing its anniversary as a “birthday everyone knows,” Myntra attempts to embed the event into popular culture rather than position it as another limited-period offer.
As online retail matures in India, brand-building efforts around marquee sale events are becoming as strategic as pricing. Myntra’s latest film illustrates how nostalgia, celebrity recall and platform milestones can be packaged into a narrative that extends beyond commerce.
