MTR Foods Reimagines Festive Gifting by Turning Regional Sweets into 'India’s Sweetest Language'

A Multilingual Celebration of Unspoken Emotions

As the festive season approaches, Indian households often rely on unsaid gestures to express affection. Capturing this cultural nuance, MTR Foods has launched its latest festive campaign, ‘India’s Sweetest Language’. The strategic initiative redefines how traditional mithai bridges relationships, exploring how popular expressions across various Indian languages transform when shared over a box of sweets.

The campaign centers around a unique narrative framework, celebrating everyday phrases like 'Ek aur lo' (Hindi), 'Olleyadagali' (Kannada), and 'Aavta rehjo' (Gujarati). Through these phrases, MTR showcases how simple festive interactions carry deeper meanings of love, care, and family reunions.

An Illustrated Book and Digital Film Lead the Narrative

Unlike traditional commercial campaigns, MTR Foods has extended the creative footprint of 'India’s Sweetest Language' into tangible brand collateral. A key deliverable of the campaign is a specially created illustrated book that compiles phrases, limericks, and festive scenarios across multiple Indian languages.

Complementing the book is a digital campaign film that captures a young girl discovering the illustrated storybook at a community gathering. As she turns the pages, the localized expressions spring to life, illustrating how line items like "Kitna Dubla Ho Gaya" serve as universal stand-ins for maternal care and affection.

Speaking on the campaign’s objective, Anupam Nair, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, MTR Foods, shared: "India is incredibly diverse, and that diversity is reflected in how we express emotion. Yet, during the festive season, sweets become a universal language of affection. When someone you love wants to say, 'I care for you,' they often won’t say it in words—they’ll simply hand you a sweet. That’s the idea behind lines like 'Kitna Dubla Ho Gaya': less about how you look, and more about saying 'I love you' without saying it."

Agency Perspective: Uncovering Pre-Existing Consumer Behaviors

The campaign was conceptualized and executed by creative agency Social Panga. The strategic approach focused on documenting long-standing cultural habits rather than introducing an artificial brand narrative.

Soumabha Nandi, Executive Vice President – Creative & Strategy, Social Panga, highlighted: "Good narratives live around us. That’s where the insight behind MTR’s 'India’s Sweetest Language' was found, hiding in ordinary moments. Why do we carry sweets when we visit someone? Why does good news almost automatically call for a box of mithai? The behaviour already existed; we simply recognised it as a language in itself. Strategically, we didn’t want to limit the idea to a commercial film, which led us to create the book—giving the idea a life beyond the campaign."

Expanding the Sweet Portfolio for Modern Festive Needs

To support the narrative rollout, MTR Foods is expanding its product portfolio with traditional and modernized sweet offerings. Alongside core staples like Mysore Pak, Gulab Jamun, and Coconut Burfi, the brand is introducing new formats incorporating ingredients like pure ghee, jaggery, and dates.

The expansion caters to evolving consumer trends, providing portion-controlled variants for modern lifestyle preferences while preserving traditional recipes.

Integrated Campaign Rollout

MTR will amplify 'India’s Sweetest Language' across multi-channel touchpoints, including creator-led storytelling, digital engagement, and festive on-ground activations to drive consumer participation.
