IRCTC Launches Revamped Ticket Booking Website
IRCTC has launched a revamped ticket booking website with faster performance, higher capacity and new features to improve train reservations.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a redesigned version of its online ticket booking website, introducing a faster platform with an updated interface and several new features aimed at improving the train reservation experience.
Rolled out on July 15, the revamped website is part of Indian Railways' broader digital modernisation initiative and is designed to offer smoother bookings, particularly during high-traffic periods such as Tatkal reservations, when users have often faced slow response times and failed transactions.

Higher booking capacity:
The upgraded platform has been built to handle more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, a significant jump from the existing capacity of around 32,000 bookings per minute.
The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) has also been enhanced to process over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, up from approximately 4 lakh earlier. Railways expects the increased capacity to minimise slowdowns, payment failures and booking errors during peak demand.
New features for passengers:
The redesigned portal introduces several user-friendly features, including the option for passengers to choose their preferred seat while booking tickets instead of relying solely on automatic seat allocation.
A new fare calendar enables travellers to compare ticket prices across different travel dates before confirming their booking.
Passengers can also view seat availability across multiple travel classes, including Sleeper, AC 3 Tier and AC 2 Tier, on a single screen, eliminating the need to switch between different tabs.
In addition, the booking process has been streamlined with fewer pop-ups, reduced CAPTCHA checks and a cleaner interface to make reservations quicker and more convenient.

Improved accessibility:
The new website supports multiple Indian languages, making the platform more accessible to users across the country.
It also integrates concession booking services for students, Divyangjan passengers and patients into a unified system, simplifying access to eligible ticket concessions.
