Drake And Kevin Durant Turn Nike Sneaker Campaign Into Comedy Sketch
Nike’s new ad featuring Drake and Kevin Durant turns sneaker promotion into a humorous locker-room comedy.
In its latest campaign, Nike has taken its sneaker marketing in an unprecedented direction with the collaboration of Drake, Kevin Durant, and unconventional internet marketing styles involving dramatic celebrity banter. This campaign is centered around promoting Kevin Durant's footwear line.
The comedic part of the campaign is shot in a locker room and places Durant and Drake in more ridiculous situations, with Durant unveiling progressively ridiculous sneaker designs to see if Drake would pass as more than just a yes-man.
From what we see in the campaign, the answer is a hard no.

Absurd Sneaker Banter:
In the first scene, we see Durant showcase one of his designs, a sneaker that is a cross between a basketball shoe and a cowboy boot, to which Drake receives with praise and declares that the shoe is “transcending the game”. He humorously suggests that a banjo would be the perfect mood setting accompaniment.
Durant, without batting an eye, says that the design is not for game play.
Things get even more out of hand when Durant offers one design covered in fur which is more closely related to hiking boots than basketball shoes.
Drake, staying committed, playfully reviews the design as 'hard'. He mentions that Durant is trying to monopolize the Alaskan footwear market to keep ankles warm in the elements, which is truly devoted.
At some point, Durant, with a look of disbelief, turns to Drake, and asks, “Are you even a real friend, bro?”

Sneaker Hype Continues:
Drake only takes a break from his odd promotion of the shoe, when Durant shows off an uncreative all-blue shoe. This gives way to an odd, extended diatribe promo for the shoe's “Candyman” colorway, with jokes about cavities, a sugar rush, and scarcity of the product as the store shelves are emptied.
This campaign came about close to Drake’s release of the triple-album project Iceman, Maid of Honour, and Habibti, increasing the rapper's cross-marketing presence in entertainment.
Durant's partnership with Nike dates back to 2007, and has continued to evolve to a lifetime contract as of 2023.
The campaign states that Durant’s 19th signature shoe was first released for public wear in March with a global launch slated for June 17.
