Doordarshan is set to bring the excitement of Hockey India League (HIL) to millions of viewers across the country. The public broadcaster has acquired the live telecast rights for the next three seasons of the popular hockey league.

Starting from December 28, 2024, viewers will be able to watch both the men's and women's HIL matches on Doordarshan Sports and the Prasar Bharati OTT platform, Waves.

This is a significant development for Indian hockey, as it will increase the visibility of the sport and attract new fans. The HIL is a platform that showcases top-class hockey talent from India and around the world.

Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Sehgal expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it aligns with the organization's goal of promoting sports and reaching a wider audience. Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi added that Doordarshan aims to elevate the production and broadcast standards of hockey to global levels.

Hockey India is equally excited about the partnership. Dilip Tirkey, Chairman of the HIL Governing Committee, highlighted the importance of the Women's HIL in promoting women's hockey in India. He believes that Doordarshan's extensive reach will help to inspire millions of young girls to take up the sport.

In addition to the HIL, Doordarshan will also broadcast other Hockey India tournaments and championships. This move is expected to further boost the popularity of hockey in India and contribute to the growth of the sport.
