The 9th edition of "How India Swiggy’d" report offers a fascinating glimpse into India’s culinary preferences and food trends for 2024. This comprehensive analysis reveals the dishes, habits, and experiences that defined how India ordered through Swiggy this year, showcasing both regional favorites and quirky moments.

Biryani Reigns Supreme

It’s official—Biryani remains India’s favorite dish, with a staggering 83 million orders in 2024. That’s an average of 158 biryanis every minute, or an incredible 2 orders every second!

Top Dishes of 2024

While Biryani claimed the crown, other favorites also made waves:

  • Dosa emerged as a close contender with 23 million orders this year, reinforcing its popularity as a comfort food.
  • Chicken Rolls were the top snack choice with 2.48 million orders, followed by Chicken Momos (1.63 million orders) and Potato Fries (1.3 million orders).
  • The Chicken Burger was the go-to late-night craving, dominating between 12 AM–2 AM with 1.84 million orders during this period.

Cities That Swiggy’d the Most

Certain cities stood out for their unique spending habits:

  • In Bengaluru, a diner spent a whopping Rs 49,900 on pasta, indulging in 55 Alfredo dishes, 40 Mac & Cheese plates, and 30 Spaghetti servings.
  • Mumbai saw its own record-breaking moment when a single customer spent Rs 3 lakh on one extravagant order.
  • Kanchipuram led with the highest average transaction value at Rs 4,284, followed by Shillong (Rs 3,678) and Siliguri (Rs 2,747).

Swiggy’s quick service also shone, with Bikaner seeing a lightning-fast delivery of Chocochip, Strawberry, and Roasted Almond Ice Cream in just 3 minutes.

Dining Trends with Swiggy Dineout

Swiggy Dineout’s 2024 performance was equally impressive, seating 22 million diners and helping customers save a total of Rs 533 crore through discounts and deals. On average, diners saved Rs 708 per order, up from Rs 672 in 2023.

Delhi topped the savings leaderboard with Rs 121 crore in total discounts, followed by Bengaluru with Rs 101 crore. Additionally, Bengaluru led alcohol purchases with 289,000 transactions, outpacing Delhi’s 96,000.

For romantic outings, Bengaluru topped the list with 486,000 “just the two of us” reservations, followed by Jaipur at 64,000.
