Sun Stellar collaborates with DRDO-DIHAR for Ladakh solar heating project
The Solar Space Heating Project launches with an initial investment of approximately Rs 90 Lakh, promising a swift payback period of less than three years, enhancing sustainability in energy solutions
In a pioneering move, solar technologies player Sun Stellar has announced a strategic collaboration with DRDO – DIHAR Leh - Lab to develop an innovative solar space heating system utilizing patented technology.
According to the company's official statement, the initial investment for the Solar Space Heating Project stands at around Rs 90 Lakh, featuring a remarkable payback period of less than three years. Covering an extensive area of 3000 sqft, with 2650 sqft designated for heating, the system boasts a lifespan exceeding 20 years with minimal maintenance requirements.
A successful pilot project was installed in December 2023, paving the way for an upgraded system for the ADM Block in December 2024. This larger system efficiently provided space heating for two rooms accommodating 8-9 soldiers, maintaining a consistent ambient temperature of +20 degrees Celsius from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Operating seamlessly for over a year with zero maintenance, the system replaced conventional diesel boiler heating in the area.
The primary objective of the project is to cater to the needs of the Indian Army, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and foster a carbon-neutral ecosystem in high-altitude regions.
Sun Stellar is actively collaborating with DRDO – DIHAR to implement solar energy-based space and water heating systems in elevated areas across India, including Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Karan Taluja, Founder and Managing Director at Sun Stellar India, expressed gratitude to DRDO - DIHAR Director OP Chaurasiya and Scientist Sarfaraz for their trust in the organization. He credited the success of the project to the dedicated R&D Team, Manufacturing Team, and Projects Team, highlighting their collaborative effort in meeting project deadlines under challenging conditions.
The initiative marks a significant stride towards a sustainable and carbon-neutral Ladakh, aligning with Sun Stellar's commitment to innovative and eco-friendly solutions.
