Filmmaker Atlee and his wife Priya Atlee have acquired the Bengaluru franchise in the inaugural World Pickleball League (WPBL), naming their team Bengaluru Jawans. This high-energy league, co-founded by former tennis stars Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar, is set to kick off on January 24, featuring 48 players from India and across the globe competing for six franchises.

The Bengaluru Jawans boast a dynamic lineup led by Indian pickleball star Vrushali Thakare, popularly known as Hammer Thakare, alongside international players like Jack Foster, Katerina Stewart, Trang Hyunh McClain, Marcelo Jardim, Alejandra Bobaria, Felix Grunert, and Mauro Garcia.

Expressing their enthusiasm, Priya and Atlee emphasized the emotional connection between sports and entertainment. They stated, "Sports, like cinema, have the power to inspire, unite communities, and create meaningful change. The World Pickleball League is a thrilling combination of high-energy sport and vibrant entertainment, and we’re excited to contribute to its mission of redefining sports in India. Our connection with Bengaluru and its passionate fans makes this journey even more special."

Gaurav Natekar, WPBL’s co-founder, warmly welcomed the Atlees, noting their storytelling expertise and their commitment to blending athleticism and entertainment. “Their entry adds tremendous momentum to the league, helping us create a platform that transcends traditional sports and offers fans a one-of-a-kind experience,” he remarked.
